Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a blizzard with a spoon. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the sting of this disaster.

This issue has spiraled out of control. It's a total fiasco. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to be effective. At this point, it feels like we're doomed. Seriously. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but it was a complete disaster.

The rest of the day was just as bad. turned sour. I stay awake.

By the Very bad time I got home, I was completely drained. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
